Dear class of 2025,

The Dean's office has graciously made arrangements for you to have a complimentary membership to NCAP and to complete the NCAP hormonal contraceptives and LAI training courses at no cost to you. If you are planning to pursue a career in community or ambulatory care, these training courses may be of interest to you. The NCBOP has agreed to honor these training programs after graduation to satisfy the requirements for providing hormonal contraceptive services and administering long acting injectables in NC.

As of October 1, 2021, immunizing pharmacists in North Carolina have the authority to administer long-acting injectable medications to patients aged 18 and older pursuant to a prescription. Pharmacy interns who hold their immunization certificate are eligible to administer LAI's under the supervision of an immunizing pharmacist. This training should take a total of 5 hours to complete.

On February 1st, 2022, North Carolina joined 19 other states allowing pharmacists authority in providing hormonal contraception. Under SL 2021-110, immunizing pharmacists in North Carolina now have the authority to dispense, deliver, or administer oral and transdermal self-administered combined hormonal and progestin-only contraceptives. The NCBOP rule requires immunizing pharmacists complete NCAP's advanced training in hormonal contraception to exercise this authority. Pharmacy interns are not authorized to provide these services until they have graduated and become a licensed immunizing pharmacist. This training program should take a total of 3 hours to complete.

I have attached the instructions for you to access and complete both training programs and a document to help you claim your NCAP account if you have not done so already. The deadline for completion of either of these programs is 5/31/24. Please read through the attached documents carefully as they are very helpful for troubleshooting if you have any problems, and they provide guidance on how to claim your certificate upon completion.

Again, these training certificate programs are optional. They are not required.

Enjoy your training!
Dr. Mills
