Dear 1L & 2L Students,

Please see the message below from Mary Harris, Old Kivett Advocacy Council President.

The Old Kivett Advocacy Council will now be accepting applications for membership. Terms will run during the 2022-23 academic year.
Are you interested in advocacy or competition? Looking for a leadership position to help you learn more about advocacy? Then the Old Kivett Advocacy Council (“OKAC”) is the perfect role for you!

Each year, OKAC is responsible for hosting three intramural advocacy competitions throughout the school year. OKAC organizes the Richard A. Lord Moot Court Competition and the Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition in the Fall and the Intramural Negotiations Competition in the Spring. The Council has an important role in hosting our intramural competitions so that the participants can be the best they can be to represent Campbell Law if they are selected to join the competitive advocacy program! Council members will also work closely with Campbell Law administration, staff, and attorneys practicing throughout the state. This is a great opportunity to network with employers and showcase how great Campbell’s internal advocacy program is.

The Old Kivett Advocacy Council is looking for rising 3Ls to assume the roles of the Executive Board. The positions include President, Vice President, Moot Court Chair, Negotiations Chair, and Client Counseling Chair. The Council is also looking for rising 2Ls to be a part of the general Council assisting in the administration of each competition. A brief overview of the positions is outlined below:

  * President: The President is responsible for the overall structure and logistics of the Council. They will be working closely with the Vice Presidents, Chairs, and Director of Competitive Advocacy to ensure each competition runs smoothly. They will also organize all Council meetings. Finally, the President will also help the Chairs with the organization and implementation of each of the competitions.
  * Vice President: The Vice President is responsible for helping the President with the overall structure and logistics of the Council. Their primary role will be facilitating communication with the appropriate parties: ensuring that the faculty advisor is informed of the progress of the competitions and any logistical needs that arise. The Vice President will also help the Chairs with the organization and implementation of all the competitions.
  * Moot Court Chair: The Moot Court Chair is responsible for the annual 2L Old Kivett Moot Court Competition and ensuring that approximately 40-50 student teams from Campbell Law participate in the competition. This individual will work with the Director of Competitive Advocacy regarding the administration of the competition, Professor Sawchak during the Old Kivett Advocacy Course, and the Council.
  * Client Counseling Chair: The Client Counseling Chair is responsible for the Client Counseling Competition. This individual will work with the Director of Competitive Advocacy regarding the administration of the competition and the Council to ensure that approximately 20-25 student teams register for the competition.
  * Negotiations Chair: The Negotiations Chair is responsible for the Negotiations Competition. They will work with the Director of Competitive Advocacy and Council to ensure that approximately 20-25 student teams register for the competition.
  * Associate Chair: These individuals will work closely with the respective Chairs for each competition. They will make joint decisions and inform the President, Vice President, and Director of Competitive Advocacy of the decisions and progress for each competition. A special effort will be made to place interested individuals with the competition of their choice, to be determined at a later date.
  * General Council Member – Any individual interested in the General Council Member Position will attend meetings and may be assigned to assist with a particular competition. They are expected to help with the logistics and the execution of all events. This position is usually ideal for a 2L who is hoping to be on the Executive Board their 3L year.

If you are interested in any of the positions, please fill out the application linked here<https://forms.gle/xsTKA4QwpVv7jLAb9> by April 22nd at 11:59 p.m. If you have any questions, please email oldkivett at gmail.com<mailto:oldkivett at gmail.com>. We look forward to hearing from you!
