Greetings, Class of 2028,

DROP-IN Student Study Hours hosted by Peer Learning Partners will be held, TOMORROW, Thursday, September 18 in the ACE Center (Levine Hall Room 106-near Java Café) as follows:

  * THURS 09/18: 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm Host Peer Learning Partner: Karie Turley

If you'd rather listen or watch the video for this info, click here: https://campbellu.egnyte.com/dl/DYTXjXrwt9XH.

Get rid of your daily "to-do" list! Instead, try 1) blocking your time with planned activity for each day & 2) tracking progress.
And, yes...this is coming from someone who absolutely LOVES a to-do list-and you can keep that list-but make that list a "parking lot" of tasks that you visit when you have the time and energy. The parking lot allows you to unpack the psychological burden of all things you need to do and helps you feel calm (ahhhh) about not forgetting them. Some days you will have energy and time to tackle some of those things-and other days, you won't...that's okay.

Tips:
Rather than making a to-do list that is task-based for each day, focus on making a schedule of what you will do with "blocks of time" during your day-action-based-how are you going to use that block of time? (and sticking to it!), recognizing each day may look a bit different.

     * Block off sleep time when you are going to wake up and when you are going to go to bed.
        * For most of us, an hour before you hope to be actually asleep should be the absolute latest "cutoff" time.
     * Block off the non-negotiable things (e.g., OMM lab, going to or watching lectures, driving, picking up the kids from daycare, dental appointment, etc.).
     * Block off time for non-negotiable breaks that support your mind, body, and spirit (e.g., morning routine, lunch break, dinner break, family time, exercise, etc.)
     * Now...stop. Look at the time left. This is the actual time available to you to study. Do your best with the time and energy you have...and remember, getting through all your lectures in one day may not only be possible, but actually less effective and efficient. (Our brains learn better and retain things longer when we space out the learning across time and space!)
        * 1) Block off 15 minutes per lecture for active preview (this could be in the morning before class or in the evening the night before class if you attend classes in-person or right before you watch each lecture remotely). This saves you time in the long run AND helps you actually get a jumpstart on learning during lectures.
        * 2) Block off active review time for all four of today's lectures-doing shorter, intense (ZERO DISTRACTIONS) retrieval-based strategies for 25-30 minutes per lecture at a time. SET A TIMER!!!
           * Take a short 5 min. break in between each intense active review session.
           * Have a system for tracking where you stopped on a given lecture so you can quickly pick up where you left off again later.
           * Have a system to track the "details" that you are not going to focus on right now-but want to flag for another time.
              * Tip: Batch work the making of flashcards for details at a different time-Anki, Quizlet, or make flashcards in your TrueLearn account (or go old school with index cards)-and be "choosy". You do not have time to do this for everything so be selective in what you choose to make a flashcard...or really any learning tool or device that takes time.
           * Have a system for tracking the hard stuff that you know you need to go over again (and again, "be choosy"-you can't do this for everything).
        * 3) Go back through round two of today's lectures building again on that information-similarly setting a timer and using spaced-retrieval practices as you are going through content.
     * As time remains (which varies from day to day), incorporate blocked time to finish covering the previous day's lectures (because you may have not gotten through all of them yet), working on those details you flagged, &/or tackling a couple things for your "I don't know this" list.

In case you missed it, the recording for Integrating Board Prep While Conquering the Blocks with MS-3 Peer Learning Partners is available through the CUSOM ACE Blackboard Organization. This is mostly focused on Blocks 5-6.

As always, you are welcome to request private, 1-on-1 sessions for additional peer academic support for specific subjects or skills, by placing your request confidentially at CUSOM ACE Peer Academic Support Request Form<https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/z1wrzo691gb0ite/> (this link is also available on CUSOM ACE Blackboard), or by scanning the QR Code below:
