Greetings Second and Third Year Law Students,



On behalf of the Old Kivett Advocacy Council, we cordially invite all 2L's and 3L's to sign up for the 2023 Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition. The competition will take place on November 9-11, 2023. The competition’s rounds will take place during the following times:

  *   Thursday, November 9, 2023 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  *   Friday, November 10, 2023 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  *   Friday, November 10, 2023 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  *   Saturday, November 11, 2023 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  *   Saturday, November 11, 2023 11:30 AM -1 PM



The Client Counseling Competition will be held in person at Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law.



The Client Counseling Competition allows students to work on the fundamental skills necessary for all successful attorneys, specifically the ability to interview, counsel, and support a client through an initial interview. Competitors conduct an initial interview as a team with a person playing the role of the client and then address both the client’s legal and non-legal needs. Students are called on to explain various aspects of the attorney-client relationship, build rapport, determine client goals, and consider applicable law and options that may be available to the client.  The ability to relate to clients is an underrated and underappreciated component of Trial Advocacy.



This intramural competition is a precursor to participating in the Regional and National ABA Client Counseling Competitions in the Spring. Participation in the intramural competition serves as a student's tryout for the Campbell Law Client Counseling Team.

Only one competitor from each team will need to fill out the form. You will be competing with the partner you choose. You must sign up by 5:00 P.M. on Monday, October 23, 2023.
