[pt2025] DPT 3 CW Assignment and Overview for DPT 758

The CW participants will be so grateful for your help in transitioning this next class!  I am grateful for how you are showing up to represent Campbell, your class, and our profession.  I know it is not required and that makes it even more noteworthy.


The patient time will officially start at 10:30 and end at 12 noon.
I am giving them 10-10:30 to prepare and set-up (get equipment).  Please arrive as closely to 10 as you can.

Your role is to guide the first session.  That will look different for each group. Gracyn cannot just tell the DPT 2 students "go ahead and transfer Edwin" . That would be a disaster!  But, Tori has volunteered to supervise both Ian and Brian Sawyer because there is less risk and she can provide intermittent (oh, look, motor learning allies here!) feedback after initial instructions and the participants will most likely be safe. Encourage the DPT 2 students to be engaged. No computers, no one sitting away from the group "taking notes".  Remind them that their comfort zone is where dreams go to die. 🙂 Being uncomfortable in this safe setting (no grades!) is a gift for growth.

YES! make them use gait belts. Pretend you ALWAYS use one 🙂

They will not know where equipment is, what is available, or where to put things back.  Please help.

Paperwork needs to be filled out.  Please give to caretakers to do if possible to reduce time. Folders have been made for the patients and the DPT 2 students should have them.

A brief initial exam needs to be done (they should be able to do most things) and do at least one relevant OM. This information will document their current status.
For any of the patients who walk, please obtain a gait speed. (10MWT).

PLEASE limit participant sitting time. Do not let the DPT 2 students do 45 minute subjectives. Start moving, then during the rest, get some subjective.  Remember, they came for the VALUE you add to their lives.   And, don't be intimidated:  you know a lot more than you did a year ago. Remember how it felt last year- help ease the DPT 2  concerns and help smooth the transition.



Lastly: There will be nursing students observing.  I attached that list as well..  They can do vitals, assist with transfers.  The priority is the DPT 2 students, but include them as able.
