Hello Future Physical Therapists!

I am writing to encourage you to get involved in 2 active Campbell PT groups that I advise.

1) Acute Care SIG: We meet every other month or quarterly. We have had meetings to discuss things such as: Leads and Lines review with manikins, "How to communicate with patients who have an altered mental state", and Panel Discussion with practicing Acute Care PT's. We have had fund raisers: stethoscope purchases through MDF, and scrub sales. We typically meet during lunch and either have a guest presenter or open discussion/planning session. We sometimes bring in pizza and have other delicious treats to brighten your day!

2) Campbell University/American Lung Association/Harnett County Better Breathers Club. We have meetings at 1st Choice Community Health Center in Lillington on the 3rd Friday of each month from 10am to 11:30am. We market our meetings to residents of Harnett and surrounding counties who have ongoing pulmonary or cardiac diagnoses. Our club has been on-going for 2 years and was started by the PT class of 2018 as part of their Service Learning project. We invite a guest speaker each month for patient education. Our speakers have been Community Leaders, Campbell Professors, Campbell PT Students, Registered Dieticians, Social Workers, Respiratory Therapists, and Others.

Getting involved with these groups is a way to be actively involved with your classmates with an activity that is extremely rewarding! You can be a BIG FISH in a little pond to try out and enhance your planning, marketing, and speaking skills; get to know some Residents of Harnett County who are living with a chronic disease; serve a much needed group of patients (Cardiopulmonary disease is extremely prevalent in Harnett County); have a dedicated Faculty Advisor (ME:)); and do something good for the community and yourself that isn't a school assignment!

We have immediately openings for Officers and Interested Students!

Come talk to me!
