Subject: Veterinary Pharmacy Residency Opportunity

My name is Lauren Forsythe, and I’m the Pharmacy Service Head at the University of Illinois Veterinary Teaching Hospital. We have the exciting opportunity of offering a PGY1 residency starting next summer. Since this is a very small specialty with non-human patients, this program is not part of the match. Therefore, I want to make sure students are aware of this position. Would you please forward the below announcement and attached document to your students that will be graduating in the spring? If you have any questions or if there is someone else I should be reaching out to with this request, feel free to email me at lforsyth at illinois.edu<mailto:lforsyth at illinois.edu> or call 217-300-8507.

Are you interested in veterinary pharmacy? The University of Illinois College of Veterinary Medicine is seeking applicants for a PGY1 residency in veterinary pharmacy. The residency runs from July 2022 through July 2023 and is approved by the International College of Veterinary Pharmacy (ICVP). Therefore, successful residency completion makes the candidate eligible to start the board certification process through ICVP. Ideal candidates will be enthusiastic team players that are self-starters and have a passion for animals. Veterinary pharmacy is a grey area connecting the veterinary medicine and pharmacy professions and is a newer specialty area within the past 35 years. There are a variety of career opportunities available in compounding, teaching, research, and clinical pharmacy for residency-trained veterinary pharmacists. For more information on the residency program and how to apply, see the attached flyer or visit https://vetmed.illinois.edu/2021/12/21/veterinary-pharmacy-resident/.
