Dear PA-S1 students,

We are contacting you regarding an update to our immunization policy that was approved by the Campbell University Cabinet and will be effective on January 4, 2022. The policy revision includes the addition of the COVID-19 vaccine requirement. You will be receiving an email from The Office of Student Affairs within the next two days, which will include the full policy and related actions necessary.

Vaccination for COVID-19 has become the standard for health systems, healthcare providers employed by these institutions and the students performing experiential training at these sites. Although students can apply for medical or religious exemption, please note the following important facts related to potential exemptions.

  * An exemption to an immunization requirement granted by Campbell University, including an exemption for the COVID-19 vaccine, does not guarantee that an affiliated, experiential training partner will honor the exemption.
  * Campbell University cannot guarantee clinical placement for any student who does not comply with the vaccination requirements in the policy, even if the student has a religious or medical exemption granted by the University.
  * Campbell University cannot approve medical or religious exemptions to requirements mandated by the policies of external institutions. Furthermore, the university cannot guarantee alternate clinical training placement for students who choose not to be immunized.
  * Failure to provide proof of vaccinations for clinical training experiences as required by the external health care institutions may limit your clinical training opportunities and prevent or delay completion of academic requirements and graduation.
  * If a student receives an exemption for an immunization requirement from Campbell University, this exemption does not create a prioritization in clinical site placements. Standard placement processes will be utilized without consideration of waiver status.

Students currently enrolled in the Physician Assistant program need to be in full compliance with the new policy requirement on or before March 4, 2022. Failure to comply may result in the postponement or cancelation of experiential training.

The email from the Office of Student Affairs will include notification that all incoming students and current students must review and electronically sign acknowledgement of the new policy through an electronic survey form. This electronic document will be recorded in your academic record along with documents including the honor code acknowledgement you signed during matriculation. All students, including those who are fully vaccinated and have already uploaded their COVID-19 vaccinations, are required to complete the acknowledgement documentation.

Students, who have not received the COVID-19 vaccine, are encouraged to begin the immunization series as soon as possible given the timeline for compliance with full vaccination occurs early in the spring semester. Questions related to the policy should be directed to the Office of Student Affairs. Questions related to impact on clinical placements for non-immunized students should be directed to me.

Thanks for your prompt attention to this matter,
Mrs. Gerstner
