Friends,

I wanted you to see that the University pivoted last night and is now requiring us to teach entirely virtually starting tomorrow. My students are unhappy and miffed at the late notice but we are moving ahead.

Rich

Students,

I am forwarding to you Dr. Creed’s email to faculty and staff about moving to remote instruction until January 20. Many of these provisions apply only on main campus, but I wanted you to see the overall picture. With regard to the law school, we will proceed as follows from now through January 20:

  1. The building will remain open and accessible to students during regular hours; the library will be open on a reduced schedule as provided by Professor Weeks.
  2. Activities sponsored by student groups must either go virtual or be postponed.
  3. No visitors are allowed in the building, only faculty, staff and students; the only exception is that the Admissions Office may offer tours to prospective students.
  4. Although the class portion of externships and clinics must be virtual, students may continue in person with their externship and clinic placements.
  5. There is no need to report symptoms or exposures during this period; however, it is mandatory that you report a positive diagnosis to Ms. Sparks and Dean Bridges, ssparks at campbell.edu<mailto:ssparks at campbell.edu>, bridges at campbell.edu<mailto:bridges at campbell.edu>; we need accurate data of the extent of the virus in our community to determine when we can safely reopen.

If you have additional questions, please ask me.

Dean Leonard

Campbell to begin
spring semester in
remote learning mode

To all Campbell University faculty/staff:

Campbell University announced on Tuesday that the spring semester will begin with online/remote learning through Jan. 19, with in-person instruction scheduled to begin on Jan. 20. Below is that announcement with additional information regarding faculty/staff updates on remote working and upcoming town hall and service awards events.

As we continue to navigate the challenges of COVID-19 and consider carefully the health and safety of our community, thank you for your perseverance and dedication. We are hopeful for a strong beginning to the new year and appreciate each of you and your commitment to Campbell.

Sincerely,

J. Bradley Creed

Campbell University will begin the spring semester with remote learning, President J. Bradley Creed announced this week. The online/virtual classes will begin on the first scheduled day of classes for all undergraduate, graduate and professional programs and run through Jan. 19. The first day of in-person instruction is scheduled for Jan. 20.

The announcement comes as universities across the nation brace for the return of students after a month of rising COVID-19 cases due to the highly contagious omicron variant. Residential students may return to Campbell’s main campus in Buies Creek beginning Jan. 9.

Other guidelines and restrictions, courtesy of the Health & Safety Committee, are listed below:

Health & Safety Committee Guidelines:

  * All rooms will remain private rooms for students living in residence halls on campus during the spring semester.
  * On-campus dining will offer take-out meal service (no dine-in) through Jan. 19.
  * The Oscar N. Harris Student Union will be closed to all student activities through Jan. 19.
  * Campbell Athletic events will be closed to all spectators through Jan. 19.
  * In-person student activities scheduled up to Jan. 19 need to be rescheduled or held virtually.
  * The University will host no large in-person gatherings on campus through Jan. 19.
  * The Admissions Office will offer daily virtual prospective student sessions now through Jan. 19 in place of in-person visits. In person visits to campus are scheduled to resume on Jan. 20.
  * The Campbell campus will be closed to visitors — except those who are essential to the functions of the University — through Jan. 19.

Faculty-Staff specific information:

  * Temporary return to remote work: A memo (linked below) from the Health & Safety Committee and Human Resources outlines considerations for a temporary return to remote work. Please review and discuss with your supervisor as appropriate.
  * Faculty-Staff Town Hall on Jan. 10 at 3:30 p.m.: A spring semester town hall meeting is scheduled for Jan. 10 at 3:30 p.m. This will be a virtual event. A registration link will be shared with all faculty and staff on Jan. 5.
  * Faculty-Staff Service Awards scheduled for Jan. 14: Prior to the Christmas break, we were hopeful that we could have an in-person Faculty/Staff Service Awards luncheon on Jan. 14, for those who are receiving an award. For the safety of our campus community, this program will be virtual again this year. Please look for an email in the next few days with instructions on how to view the livestream program.
