Good morning everyone,

We hope you are all doing well during these first busy weeks of the new semester.

Just a few quick updates as we head into a long weekend.

First, the deadline to register for the Mock Interview Program is tomorrow/Friday at 5:00 pm. Click HERE<https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/p155h25p182zplw/> <https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/p155h25p182zplw/> to sign up. This is a fantastic opportunity to get real world practice and get ready for your interviews! It will take place the afternoon of Friday, January 30 between 1-4:00 pm, and each student will have a 30 minute slot for an interview and feedback. Interviewing is an extremely important skill you will use often throughout your law school journey, and fine tuning it now is an excellent investment in yourself. We have a great slate of practicing attorneys from multiple practice settings who will join us for the program, and there is limited space available. Once we reach capacity, we will move to a waitlist. Sign up now to secure your spot.

We will host another cover letter review drop in next Friday. Sign up HERE<https://docs.google.com/document/d/1naKE4KdGKSMS_yKCTyjUHUhYCK7OOwUivBpq6z0eiE0/edit?tab=t.0> if you would like to participate. Participants, remember to submit your cover letter to your counselor by Thursday, January 22 at noon to make the most of your counseling time. If you do not submit your materials by the deadline, you can still attend your meeting, but counselors may not have as much time to devote to providing feedback. Also, please draft your cover letter as if you are applying to a specific position (rather than submitting a generic template) so we can give you the most meaningful feedback.

Space will be limited for this dedicated cover letter drop in, but we are opening more routine counseling slots in Symplicity to best accommodate your individual schedules during the busy recruiting season. You can view all of the counselor availability in Symplicity and sign up there. If you cannot find a time that works for your schedule, email our office.

In addition to offering counseling appointments, our office will continue to review application materials via email. Please allow at least 48 hours for feedback when submitting application materials for review and let your counselor know if you are trying to meet an application deadline. The volume of materials we are reviewing right now is particularly high, and if you have not heard from your counselor withing 48 hours of submitting your materials for review, please do not hesitate to send a brief follow up email checking the status.

For those interested in learning more about the MIP program and the NCBA Open Door Fellowship, we look forward to seeing you TODAY at noon in room 313 as we welcome representatives from the North Carolina Bar Association to talk about the robust opportunities for students via those 2 programs. Note that these programs are for paid summer opportunities. Even if you haven't registered, just show up!

If you are participating in big law firm recruiting, we encourage you to let our office know if/when you receive offers for summer 2026 and/or summer 2027. Tracking that information is enormously helpful to our office's ability to serve students, particularly this year as the recruiting landscape has shifted away from On Campus Interviews and more toward direct applications in the big firm space.

Finally, we want to reassure you that while this is a very hectic time in the recruiting season, you have time. If you are already engaged in the job search process, that is great. If you have not yet started, that is OK too. Please reach out and let us help you make a plan. We are here to support you.

Have a great rest of the week, and continue to email us with questions. And as always, please read the Career Advisor newsletter (and follow us on Instagram) to stay abreast of important career related information.

Warm regards,

Mallory Underwood
