Good afternoon, 1Ls,
I hope your Spring semester is off to a great start! Please read this email for more information about two summer opportunities available through the North Carolina Bar Association—the Minorities in the Profession (MIP) Committee's 1L Summer Associate Program and the North Carolina Bar Foundation's Open Door Fellowship.
The NCBA will be holding an information session about both programs THIS Thursday, January 15 from 12:00 PM - 1:00 PM in Room 313. You can sign up for lunch here<https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/pqievls0cjv461/>.
MIP 1L SAP
1L SAP<https://www.ncbar.org/members/communities/committees/minorities-in-the-profession/1l-summer-associate-program/> is designed to provide corporate legal departments and law firms in North Carolina with an inside track on recruiting some of North Carolina's brightest and most talented law students, specifically those committed to diversity. This is a competitive program, as two students and one alternate will be selected per North Carolina law school. Those who are selected to represent the law school will attend an interview day on Thursday, February 19th. Students interview with all employers and then have the chance to "match" based on mutual rankings.
To apply for this program, you must submit an application on Symplicity (ID #23122) by Wednesday, January 21. Below is a full timeline of the application process:

Open Door Fellowship
This fellowship was created as part of NCBA+NCBF's ongoing commitment to address inequities in access to legal services and participation in the legal profession experienced by historically excluded or disadvantaged individuals and communities in North Carolina. This is a 10-week experience with an arranged employer host with a payment of $10,000. More highlights of the program and the application can be found here<https://www.ncbarfoundation.org/our-programs/open-door-fellowship/>.
If you have any questions on either of these programs, this Thursday's event is a great place to ask them. You may also email me directly with any questions that you have.
Best,
Christiana H. Johnson
