[Law26] Job Search Updates & January Program Preview

Good afternoon,

Congratulations on completing the first semester of your 2L year! We hope your much deserved winter break is off to a good start.

As you head into the holiday season, we want to look ahead and highlight a few important things to help you hit the ground running with your job search in January.

First, today's Career Advisor newsletter went out earlier today and contains an overview of some important recruiting and professional development programs coming up in January and February.  There will be a lot happening both the week you come back and throughout those first two months, so we encourage you to take a moment now to read the Career Advisor and add the important dates to your calendar.

In particular, we want to highlight a few key things that will take place the week of January 6.

On January 7 our office will host a lunchtime Spring Recruiting Program Overview. The program will provide information about On Campus Interviews (OCIs), including how to bid/apply, and the North Carolina Legal Interview Program (NCLIP). We strongly encourage you to attend this lunchtime event to learn about these two interview programs. There will be a link to sign up for lunch in the January 6 Career Advisor.

On January 10, OCIs open for bidding. If you have participated in OCIs before, note the new Friday-Wednesday bidding window for each OCI/RC phase. If you log in to Symplicity now, you can get a preview of the employers who have already registered to participate. Employers will continue to sign up for all phases of OCIs well into the new year. ** If you need assistance accessing Symplicity, email Melissa Peacock at mpeacock at campbell.edu.

On January 10, there will be an opportunity to drop in with the counselors to ask individual OCI/recruiting questions and have your application materials reviewed.  You will need to pre-register and submit the application materials you would like to have reviewed by January 8. There will be a link to register for the Drop In in the January 6 Career Advisor.

In addition to a preview of important dates, today's Career Advisor also contains new job postings, information and resources for those who want to take advantage of the less hectic time over the next few weeks to focus on preparing for your summer job search.  Although there is nothing related to your job search that you must do over the break (unless you are applying for positions that have early deadlines), interview programs and recruiting generally will be upon us quickly when school resumes, so using this time to research employers, explore job postings, work on drafts of your cover letters/application materials, and even do some informal outreach to attorneys in practice settings and areas of interest will help make things easier the first week back after break.

Our office is open this week and Director Sanders and I are available to answer your questions. We will be closed December 23 - January 1 (not December 26 - January 1 as noted in the CA) and will reopen January 2. Please do not hesitate to reach out.

The Career Advisor newsletter will continue to be your "go to" weekly source for new job postings, details on recruiting programs, networking events, registration links, scholarship and public services funding opportunities, and all things career and professional development. We will have more information and registration links for programs and events in January, so be on the lookout as soon as you return from break.
