[Law24] 2022 Campbell Law Client Counseling Competition

Greetings Second and Third Year Law Students,



On behalf of the Old Kivett Advocacy Council, we cordially invite all 2L
and 3L's to sign up for the 2022 Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling
Competition. The competition will take place October 20-22. The
competition’s rounds will take place during the following times:



   -

   Thursday October 20, 2022 6:30-7:30
   -

   Friday October 21, 2022 5:30-6:30
   -

   Friday October 21, 2022 7:00-8:00
   -

   Saturday October 22, 2022 12:00-1:00
   -

   Saturday October 22, 2022 1:30-2:30



The Client Counseling Competition will be held *in person. *



The Client Counseling Competition addresses fundamental skills necessary
for all successful attorneys, namely the ability to interview, counsel, and
support a client through their legal issues. Competitors conduct an initial
interview with a person playing the role of the client and then address
both the client’s legal and non-legal needs. Students are called on to
explain various aspects of the attorney-client relationship, build rapport,
determine client goals, and consider applicable law and options that may be
available to the client.  The ability to relate to clients is an underrated
and underappreciated component of Trial Advocacy.  If you are at all
interested in trial advocacy, don’t miss out on this unique opportunity to
develop and further these skills, which will set you apart both in
interviewing and practice.



This intramural competition is a precursor to participating in the Regional
and National ABA Client Counseling Competitions in the Spring..
