[Cusom28] A note from Dr. Stewart regarding the Block 5 Cardiology Course

Greetings rising MS-2's-

I hope you all are doing well and starting to enjoy your summer break. As part of your preparation for the Block 5 Cardiology Course we ask that you read Dubin's "Rapid Interpretation of EKG's" before returning to campus for the fall semester. We have discovered through student feedback over the years that this helps students considerably with learning EKG interpretation which is a critical component of the course.

Dubin's book can be accessed through the CUSOM library where there are several hard copies available for check out. Students also tell me that copies are available for purchase on line for a reasonable price. I know that MS-3 and MS-4 students have handed down old copies in the past so you may want to check with your upper class colleagues to see if that is an option.

There will be a quiz in the MS-2 Block 5 Cardiology Clinical Skills Course which will be based on the material covered in Dubin's book. If you read the book (which is not a difficult read) you should do fine on the quiz.

Finally I encourage you to take at least a few weeks at the end of the summer to rest before returning to campus in the fall. I have found that coming back well rested is a consistent predictor of success in Block 5.
