Subject: Behavioral Health Update
Good morning,
We are excited to announce the addition of three new providers to the behavioral health clinical team!
Joseph Lowe, LCMHCA, is a former intern of our department who will be rejoining us full time after a year in community practice. We also have two master's level clinical mental health counseling interns starting this Spring, Alexis & Emily, and they both will be with us until May 2027. Below you can find additional information about each new team member.
We appreciate your patience as we have navigated the high demand for support and we look forward to serving you! If you are interested in making an appointment with any of these providers, please respond with your preference and we will work on getting you scheduled.
[cid:image001.png at 01DC86D1.D4D380F0]Joe's work is rooted in the belief that every client brings their own expertise and lived experience into the therapy room. He strives to create a space where clients feel genuinely welcomed, heard, and supported. Building trust, rapport, and open communication is central to his approach. Joe draws from a range of therapeutic frameworks-including Existential Therapy, Feminist Therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), and Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)-to ensure each client receives care tailored to their unique needs. He also incorporates Health at Every Size (r) (HAES) principle into his work with body image and holistic wellness.
Joe has experience supporting individuals through anxiety, depression, life transitions, identity exploration, family stress, academic and career concerns, and various forms of trauma. He aims to walk alongside clients as they navigate challenges and move toward meaningful personal goals.
Outside the therapy room, Joe enjoys running outdoors, diving into sci-fi books, catching NBA games, and spending quality time with his growing family.
[cid:image002.jpg at 01DC86D1.D4D380F0]Alexis Hosseini is a Behavioral Health Intern with the CUSOM Department of Behavioral Health. She is a Clinical Mental Health Counseling graduate student at North Carolina State University and holds a Bachelor's degree in Psychology with a minor in Yoga Studies from the University of North Carolina Wilmington. Alexis is passionate about creating a warm, supportive, and culturally responsive counseling space where clients feel seen and empowered. Before pursuing counseling, Alexis gained experience in addiction recovery support, community mental health education, and research focused on adolescent trauma and behavioral challenges. In these roles, Alexis supported individuals facing anxiety, depression, life transitions, trauma-related concerns, and identity development. Grounded in a humanistic and person-centered foundation, Alexis' values authenticity, empathy, and honoring each client's unique lived experience. Her approach integrates wellness, Cognitive-Behavioral modalities, and multicultural awareness to meet clients where they are and collaborate on meaningful, attainable change. Alexis is committed to creating a safe, nonjudgmental environment where clients feel supported as they explore their experiences and work toward their personal goals."
