Subject: Sigma Sigma Phi Membership
Importance: High
MS-1 & MS-2 Students:
We are excited to tell you about an opportunity to become a member of the National Osteopathic Service Fraternity, Sigma Sigma Phi. We have created a chapter at Campbell University School of Osteopathic Medicine called Chi Upsilon.
What is Sigma Sigma Phi?
Sigma Sigma Phi National
An Honorary Osteopathic Service Fraternity
Sigma Sigma Phi is an Honorary Osteopathic Service Fraternity. Its objectives and purposes are: To further the Science of Osteopathic Medicine and its standards of practice, to improve the scholastic standing and promote a higher degree of fellowship among its students, to bring about a closer relationship and understanding between the student bodies and the officials and members of the faculties of our colleges, and to foster allegiance to the American Osteopathic Association and to perpetuate these principles and the teachings through the maintenance and development of this organization.
Sigma Sigma Phi Chi Upsilon Chapter
Chi Upsilon chapter embraces and fosters the same objectives and principles as the national grand chapter. Our chapter is focused on scholastic performance and service to the community.
How do I apply to become a member of Chi Upsilon?

Eligible students will need to submit applications AND registrar requests by Friday, February 10th. Once applications are received, a committee will review the applications and candidates will be notified if they are accepted.
If selected to become a member, membership dues are $60 (a one-time fee) and we will register you nationally. We will have an induction ceremony for all new members this Spring. At graduation, SSP members will receive a certificate from SSP National, special recognition at our Awards Dinner, and an SSP honor cord to wear with regalia during CUSOM's Graduation Ceremony.
We have attached the membership application and the registrar release - both are necessary to complete your application to Chi Upsilon.
**Please note, if you need to look up your AOA number (for the SSP application), please follow the following steps:
1. If you have not created an account yet go to: http://www.osteopathic.org/inside-aoa/about/aoa-membership/Pages/medical-student-registration.aspx and create an account.
2. They should email you your AOA ID # within 24 hours if you are a new account.
3. If it says you already have an account -- use the "forgot password" link and put in your email address (this should be your CUSOM email).
4. Email msc at osteopathic.org<mailto:msc at osteopathic.org> to ask for the AOA ID number and they should get back to you within a couple of days or you may call the AOA at 1-800-621-1773.
Please email all completed applications AND registrar releases to Debi Pipes by Friday, February 10, 2023.
FAQs:
1. Who can apply?
MS-1 and MS-2 students ONLY. Applications from MS-3 or MS-4 students are not accepted.
1. Can MS-2 students apply again if they applied during their MS-1 year or did not meet the requirements during their MS-1 year?
YES
1. Do I need to re-apply every year?
NO. MS-2 students, if you are already an active Sigma Sigma Phi member, you do NOT need to submit another application. As long as you continue to meet the requirements, you maintain your membership for all years of medical school.
1. Can my GPA be rounded up if it is slightly under the 3.6 threshold?
NO. Unfortunately, as stated in the Academic Bulletin, the threshold is set by Sigma Sigma Phi National and cannot be changed or adjusted by our Chapter.
Thanks, everyone!
Blessings,
Debi
