Hi team!

Following up on Thursday's opportunity to support the *Optimizing
Postpartum Outcomes Act*.

If you feel called to support the current and future moms in your life
(maybe even yourself one day), please take 5min to send a letter to your
federal congressman. Info below:

1) *Template*:

2) If you'd like to send a letter outside of APTA's take-action engine, you
can *find your representative*'s contact info:

If you missed my speal and don't know what this is about, please see below

I hope you had a great weekend recovering from last week!

The *Optimizing Postpartum Outcomes Act* would incorporate pelvic floor PTs
in Labor and Delivery units so moms can learn healthy movement habits and
not have to suffer across the lifespan.

Doing this would help moms who just had babies by:

- Helping them heal from labor (i.e., breathing exercises, C-section
precautions and mobility, efficient posture & safe movements while their
bodies are healing)
- Teaching signs/symptoms so they can advocate for themselves for follow-on
pelvic floor PT (i.e., pain during sex, incontinence, difficulty going to
the bathroom, etc.)

Background: The need is greater than the demand.

o Currently, at least 50% of moms report having pelvic floor issues over
the lifespan.
o However, they often don't get the care they need because of a "suck it
up" culture in OB/GYN.
o Because their issues are so common, doctors often tell them to accept it
and don't refer them (enough) to pelvic floor PT.
o As a result, pelvic floor PTs are not common. You may see one in an
outpatient clinic.
