As part of our Black History Month celebration, CPHS Student Affairs is highlighting remarkable Black professionals who have made significant contributions to the healthcare field. Today, we recognize Dr. Ernest J. Grant, a pioneer in the Nursing industry, whose impact continues to shape the profession.

📌 About Dr. Ernest J. Grant:

Dr. Ernest J. Grant is a trailblazing leader in nursing, recognized for his dedication to burn care, fire safety, and advancing the nursing profession. As the 36th president of the American Nurses Association (ANA), he became the first man to hold this prestigious position, representing the interests of over 4 million registered nurses nationwide. With more than 30 years of experience, Dr. Grant has been instrumental in burn prevention and education, serving as the burn outreach coordinator for the North Carolina Jaycee Burn Center and as adjunct faculty at UNC-Chapel Hill School of Nursing. His expertise has been sought after by the U.S. military, and he was honored with the Nurse of the Year Award in 2002 for his work treating burn victims from the World Trade Center site. A dedicated advocate for fire safety, he has received numerous accolades, including the B.T. Fowler Lifetime Achievement Award. Dr. Grant's commitment to excellence, leadership in professional organizations, and contributions to nursing education and policy continue to inspire future generations in the field of healthcare.
