I had a few people ask about this article, here it is. NOT REQUIRED READING😊

And, I wanted to clarify what Sam was asking about.
Sam was asking about using a paddle for the hemi hand to prevent contracture/spasticity reduction.
It looks like this (I have one in the closet)
[Finger Training Device,Stroke Rehab Equipment Finger Orthotics Fingerboard Stroke Hemiplegia Finger Orthotics Points for S...]

This is an option, but not one that has evidence support. Might help, might not, unlikely to hurt.
In the neuro world, like ortho, there are “camps” of approaches to rehabilitation of persons with neuro injuries. In the ortho world there is Mckenzie, Maitland, Postural Restoration Institute, for example.

In the neuro world, there is NDT (neurodevelopmental treatment), PNF and Neuro-IFRAH. The approach I always take is learn and apply within an evidence-based framework. One way is NOT the only way and should not be applied without clinical reasoning. All approaches have some merit, even without evidence support. We have to be wise and cautious consumers of specialized approaches. It always comes back to WHAT are you using it for, and for WHAT TASK? If the tool is helpful for the identified impairment related to the salient activity- and is not likely to be harmful, I’m pretty agreeable to trying it (I’ll always tell you to go for it in Neurowellness!) but be careful to not apply what worked with one person to another without again assessing their individual needs. We will discuss more about this in the fall so you can be a curious consumer.

Lastly- great conversation in class today.
Enjoy your weekend.
