Edinburgh is one of Scotland's most multicultural cities, and its derby
rivalries are equally fierce. Since their inception on Christmas Day 1875,
Hearts & Hibs have been playing each other for over 300 competitive matches
- one of which took place this past Sunday!

Hearts and Hibs are just three miles apart, with Hearts' Tyncastle Park to
the west of town in Gorgie and Hibs' Easter Road to the north in Leith.

Hibs are in the top six

The gap at the top of the table is closing between Hearts and Hibs, with
Hearts moving up to third and securing European football until Christmas
while Hibs must work hard on their final weekend before splitting to secure
their place in the top six.

Both teams are desperately aiming for victory in their last match of the
season and this match could make or break their chances. It's an important
clash in London and will provide both managers with a huge challenge.

Hibs have won six derbies this season despite their league struggles,
including a 2-0 triumph at Easter Road in November when Martin Boyd scored
twice. That is their most wins in one league campaign since the late 1970s
when they won eight matches and lost four.

Hibs' derby against Rangers is a more significant fixture than other teams
in the league, as it's their only matchup each week and there are no
religious or political issues involved.

Hearts have a point to prove

The Edinburgh derby has long been a fixture in the Scottish Premier League
(SPL). Teams have met twice in the Scottish Cup and battled it out at
Easter Road and Tynecastle during league matches.

Recently, there have been some thrilling matches between the clubs. Hearts
have won three out of the last four matches played.

Most recently, Juventus achieved a stunning 3-2 victory in the Scottish Cup
semi-final in October thanks to Roberto Mancini's hat-trick.

>From ancient Greece onward, lyric poetry used the heart as a representation
of love. This symbol was often featured on luxury items like brooches,
coats of arms, playing cards and wooden chests.

Nowadays, the heart icon has assumed an even more important role. It has
become a ubiquitous cliche and meme associated with romantic feelings as
well as civic duties.

Hibs have sold out

Hibs have sold out Saturday's Edinburgh derby - one of the biggest games on
Auld Reekie's football calendar. The Easter Road side are fighting for a
place in the top six and a win from Hearts will put them ahead of
Livingston with two games remaining before the split.

Scottish Cup: A win would see them through to the next round, so it's
essential that they get this game right.

Edinburgh's football club, Hibs and Hearts, have been a constant presence
for decades. As such, there has always been an intense level of rivalry
between their fans over the years.

In the summer of 1999, a group called Hands Off Hibs attempted to take
control of the club. This caused outrage among Jambos supporters but Hibs
fought back and ultimately prevailed.
