In honor of Women’s History Month, we are excited to spotlight Dr. Qinfeng "Sarah" Liu, a distinguished member of our Pharmaceutical Science faculty.
March marks Women’s History Month, a time to recognize and celebrate the remarkable contributions of women throughout history. In honor of this month, CPHS Student Affairs will be highlighting inspiring women faculty from our programs who have made a lasting impact in healthcare, science, and education. Join us every Tuesday and Thursday as we showcase their journeys, achievements, and contributions to the fields you are pursuing today.

💡 Q&A Highlight:
Q: What inspired you to pursue a career in science?
As a child, I was inspired by Chien-Shiung Wu and Marie Curie. Their passion for discovery and impact on the world sparked my desire to become a scientist.
Q: Can you share a defining moment in your career?
One of my most rewarding moments was when a master’s student I mentored at CPHS shared their research experience with me that helped them secure a great job after graduation. Knowing I’ve contributed to students’ success is incredibly fulfilling.
Q: What challenges have you faced as a woman in science, and how did you overcome them?
Balancing research, grant writing, and family life—especially with school-age kids—has been my biggest challenge. Open communication and teamwork with my husband help us support each other and manage time conflicts.
Q: How has your work contributed to the advancement of healthcare and science?
My greatest contribution is training students who now play key roles in drug development and manufacturing. Additionally, my research and publications contribute to innovative treatments and improved drug therapies.
Q: What advice would you give to students, especially women, pursuing careers in science?
Be sure you’re passionate about science, believe in your abilities, and work hard to build a strong STEM foundation. Seek mentors, gain hands-on experience early, and find support from peers and family.
Q: What do you find most rewarding about working in education and mentoring students?
The joys of lifelong learning, academic freedom, witnessing student growth, and knowing I’m helping shape their future success.
