Hello class,
There has been a last minute change at the Community Care Clinic to lower
the PA-S1 slots to 5 instead of 7. This decision came from Dr. Cacioppo and
he wanted Elizabeth to make these changes now. They did add a new virtual
clinic on 11/5 and changed 10/30 to virtual and priority will be given to
the students who had to be removed from a previous date. This change mostly
came from the fact that they now have OMS-1, OMS-2, PA-S1, PA-S2, pharmacy,
and shadowers causing some teams to have six people, which they do not have
room for the clinics.
Virtual clinics will run similar to in person clinics but the teams will
use WhatsApp to video call the patients. They will first call the patient,
then call then attending, and then recall the patient along with the
attending to discuss the plan. There may be some recalling and waiting for
patients to pick up but the second year medical students will be able to
organize this. On the day of clinic, volunteers will receive a zoom link
from one of the clinic managers and will meet there to be
assigned patients. Unfortunately, they only have a limited number of Athena
accounts for EMR but you may be able to use the same log in as the medical
student on the team so you can read the patient history.
For those individuals who signed up or were moved to virtual days, or even
for everyone to prepare for potential changes in the future, if you could
download the WhatsApp app anytime before your clinic date, that would be
great! Let us know if you have any questions!
