Hello,
I hope this email finds you well. My name is Sam Puhl and I am currently a practicing PA on the cardiac surgery team at Wake Forest Baptist Health in Winston Salem, NC. I am writing to express our team's interest in recruiting physician assistants to join our cardiothoracic surgery team. We have both an OR PA position as well as a clinic APP position as well. I have recently taken over the recruitment of candidates within our department. We have an increase in volume at our facility and are excited to share this opportunity with others. We are open to onboarding new grads for both positions if we feel they are a good fit with our team.
I was wondering if you would be willing to share this with your PA students that would be interested and are anticipating upcoming graduation. I'm happy to answer any questions pertaining to the job position and our cardiac surgery program here at Wake through this email (spuhl at wakehealth.edu<mailto:spuhl at wakehealth.edu>).
Some highlights of our operating room position:
* Full scope cardiac surgery, including CABG, aortic/mitral/tricuspid valve repairs and replacements, heart transplants, VAD support devices, ECMO
* Heavy focus on operating room skills such as endoscopic vein harvesting, first assisting in cardiac cases, with occasional clinic coverage
* Team of PAs with experience training new grads, high retention rate with over half of our team being here at Wake for > 5 years, several over 10 years
* Current call rotation is one weekend ever two months-very rare in cardiac surgery!
Some highlights of the clinic APP position:
* Build your own rapport and relationship with patients that are post op thoracic and cardiac surgery-this includes heart transplants, CABG, valves, lung lobectomy, esophageal surgery, etc
* Ability to see patients preoperatively and postoperatively for continuity of care
* Flexible scheduling with clinic times (good work life balance!)
* Surgeons present and available during clinic if any concerns or questions arise (great for new grads)
* No call!
Please forward my information (bottom of this email) to any students interested in hearing more about these positions. We are rather proactive and are working to get the official job openings posted on the Wake careers website. I will send the links to anyone interested once they are uploaded.
Let me know if you have any questions. I am happy to assist you. Thank you for your time.
Best,
Sam Puhl
