Hello wonderful PA class & faculty/staff,

The month of February is Black History Month-- an annual celebration to
remember important people and events in the history of the African
diaspora, and to reflect on the roles African Americans have played in
shaping U.S. history. Let's not forget that the first woman to be certified
as a PA, Joyce Nichols
<https://exhibits.mclibrary.duke.edu/duke-women/women/nichols-joyce/>, also
happened to be the first African-American woman to practice as a PA!

To honor and celebrate the many contributions of African-Americans, the DEI
committee would like to create a CUPA Black History Month playlist!! Many
genres of music we listen to today were shaped by Black artists and
influences. Beyoncé, Lauryn Hill, Jimi Hendrix, Louis Armstrong – these are
just a few of the many Black musicians who created some of America’s
greatest sounds. Please send me one of your favorite songs by a Black
artist/musician by replying to this email or text (510-712-0126). I plan to
share the playlist with everyone on February 1st so we can listen all month
(and all year) long :)

Thank you and I hope everyone has a great rest of the evening.
Best,
Juliet Fong, PA-S1 (*she/her)*
