Dear Class,
We hope that you are well. As you are likely aware, there is a good chance that parts of NC may experience heavy rains and wind due to a storm that is approaching. Due to the unpredictability of these storms, everyone should be tracking the storm path. Any shift in the trajectory may put you directly in the path of the storm. We ask that each of you use your own judgement in assessing your situation. You should make decisions to report to or leave from your rotation based on your clinical site recommendations, your commute route, and your personal comfort level. Your safety is our priority.
Make sure that you have exchanged phone numbers with your preceptor and/or office contacts in case you need to give or get updates on clinic schedules. Make sure you keep the Clinical Team informed of any schedule or shift changes, as we need to be able to account for everyone’s location. Keep in mind, if you are working a shift in a hospital and conditions worsen, you may be safer at the hospital than you would be traveling back to your home.
Because we have students located across the state, the Clinical Team cannot offer blanket advice for everyone, so we rely on your clinical sites to give you guidance. If your clinical site remains open, and you feel comfortable reporting to clinic, then you should do so. If you do not feel safe, or if your site is closed, then stay home or travel to a safer location if applicable, but maintain communication with both your preceptor and the clinical team as soon as you know what your plans are.
*Please note: Copy ALL of the CT on email updates (Mrs. Stevens, Mrs. Stabingas, Mrs. Pope, Mrs. Ortiz-Pate, and Mr. Hampson).
Here are a few inclement weather tips/reminders:
*
Fill your vehicle with gas BEFORE the storm hits
*
Go to the grocery store BEFORE the weather gets bad
*
Purchase drinking water snack bars in case you have no power
* If you are in AHEC housing and officials evacuate residents, you must leave
*
NEVER drive through flood waters
*
Be mindful of downed powerlines
*
Remember students ARE NOT considered essential personnel by hospital systems
* CHARGE your phones and devices
* Fill your bathtub with water for hand washing and to flush your toilets
*
Purchase a flashlight and batteries
*
Store important items in cabinets or on countertops in case of flooding
*
Consider purchasing a weather radio with batteries
*
Stay in touch with classmates in case you (or they) may need temporary housing
Any rotation time missed will be assessed on a case-by-case basis. If additional hours are required (and cannot be made up on this rotation), the Clinical Team will work with you to acquire these hours during breaks or holidays if needed.
Also, remember that Campbell.edu<http://campbell.edu/> may have important information regarding local conditions. If you have not done so already, you may sign up for campus alerts that will be delivered to your phone at https://www.campbell.edu/alerts/ .
As we know from past experiences, these storms may be just a slight inconvenience, or they can shut rotations down for several days. Keep in mind, it is always best to hope for the best and plan for the worst- (see attached FEMA checklist).
Please remember that we are here for you if you have any questions or concerns.
Stay safe and well!
