Description

INTRODUCTION
This fellowship recognizes the work and legacy of Judge Robert Farmer. It supports law students, with demonstrated financial need, to work in a summer placement within Wake County, specifically the Superior Court Judges' chambers, the District Attorney, and the Public Defender. Students may pursue this as an internship or externship. Up to 6 awards ($2,500 each) will be granted. Recipients can only have one school-sponsored financial award.


ELIGIBILITY AND PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS
1. Applicant must be a student currently in good academic standing.
2. Applicant must be a rising third-year student for the DA and PD placements. Rising second or third-year students can apply for the judicial position.
3. Applicant must not have been guilty of an Honor Code violation. Additionally, any recipient of this stipend must abide by the Honor Code for the duration of the position and agree to forfeit the entire grant if they are found in violation of the Honor Code by the Honor Court.
4. Applicants are not required to have had the placement secured prior to applying, as your application will secure the position. However, if you have secured a placement with one of these sites, please note that in your statement of interest.

3. Statement of Interest (length of statement is discretion of applicant)
a. State the name of your employer. (Attach a copy of a "letter of commitment" from that employer that states the terms of your employment. The letter may be in e-mail format). If you have not secured a position, then you should state the name the office you'd like to work with (Superior Court, Public Defender, or District Attorney)
b. Why have you chosen to work with this employer and how you plan to contribute to the Wake County community?
c. Briefly describe your career goals. For the judicial clerkship, also include what past experiences have prepared you for this position.
d. Describe your financial need and how a Farmer Fellowship will help you.
e. Please list any other financial assistance, grant, stipend, or scholarship that you have received, or plan to receive, for your 2024 summer work.
