Friends,
I hope all of you are as thrilled by our bar passage numbers as I am. I am particularly heartened that 10 of our 11 repeaters passed, and the one who failed missed by a single point so can be licensed elsewhere. We stick with our students until they succeed.
We always strive to do better, and to that end, I am sharing with you confidentially (and please do not share) Dean Hinds-Glick's analysis of the small group of failures this year. It is heartening to see that our pathway to bar success is practically infallible for students who do all that we provide. The paradox is that the students most at risk are the ones who do the least to prepare. Conversations are to be had about how to reach and energize this group.

Dean,
We had nine (9) first- time takers fail the exam. Eight of the nine (8/9) were in the bottom quartile and specifically in the bottom 20 of the class. One was ranked in the 3rd quartile. Eight of the people who failed had one thing in common, they turned in "0" summer assignments. The one person who completed the program and failed, had a 269. The pass rate for the students who completed the program was 84/85 or 98.8 percent. The pass rate for partial completion (50% or more) was also 84/85 or 98.8 percent.
Of the 8 people who failed from the 4th quartile, they were all in the bottom 20 of the class. The lowest ranking person was 180/183. The people below that person were successful and did complete the course.
Looking at the 4th quartile only:
Participants 18/19 Passed 94.7%
Non-Participants 17/24 Passed 70.8%
Overall 4th Quartile 35/43 Passed 81.3 %
I only have a few scores from the unsuccessful students, but they are 269, 268, 265, and 267. I will continue to meet with the students and gather data.
