Friends,
One of the programs I have started as Dean of which I am proudest is our study abroad trip to Ghana each summer. Three weeks long, it explores the international slave trade in depth, current issues facing Ghana's legal system, and the economic role Africa plays in the world economy, now and in the future. We start with a week in the bustling capital of Accra, then go to the colonial capital of Cape Coast, spend a long weekend in Kumasi, the capital of the Ashanti Kingdom, and finish back in Accra. It has been a life-altering experience for our students. The faculty for the program come from both our law school and our partner, Cape Coast School of Law.
A number of you have expressed envy that this opportunity was not available when you were students, and this summer I hope to correct that. I have reorganized the program to accommodate up to 10 alumni and supporters. You could participate in as much or as little of the trip as your schedule would permit. Our dates for this year are May 17 - June 7. I would expect you to bear your own costs, and the amount will turn on participation. But I do promise you it would be the cheapest trip to Africa you could ever take. And we will explore CLE credit for the experience.
Without a commitment, if you have any interest, let my executive assistant Jamie Herman know at jherman at campbell.edu. Jamie has been with me several times, serves as the designated administrator of this trip, and can answer any of your questions. And I am always available to talk.
Dean Leonard
