Subject: Inn of Court
Friends,
I am writing to you to thank you for your commitment to our law school, either as a member of my Board of Visitors or as one of my major supporters. And I want to acquaint you with another opportunity to be involved with the law school that you may find of interest.
The Craven-Everett Inn of Court is a long-established organization in the legal culture of our state, starting at Duke Law School in the 1990s. It is named for two remarkable North Carolina jurists, Judge Braxton Craven of the United States Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit, and Judge Robinson Everett, the Chief Judge of the Military Court of Appeals. It is affiliated with the international Inns of Court movement, which has chapters all over the world. In 2018, it dropped its affiliation with Duke Law School and reaffiliated with Campbell Law School.
If you are not familiar with the concept, an Inn provides an opportunity for senior and junior lawyers, jurists and law students to mix, mingle and explore topics together. It is my honor to be President of our Inn. We meet six times a year for a social hour, a nice meal, and then a program for which we usually are able to provide CLE credit.
Our Inn meets six times a year, three each semester. We begin with a social hour at 6, a dinner at 7, and a program around 8 of no more than an hour. We have worked hard in recent years to explore cutting-edge topics in our programs.
The annual dues for the Inn are $350. This covers all of the dinners and the CLE for the programs. For sitting judges, the annual fee is $85, and judges then pay $35 for the meal at any meeting they attend. This is also the fee for any guest that a member brings. We normally meet on Thursday nights, and our dates for this fall are October 10, November 14 and December 12.
If you have any interest in joining please let Sharon Sparks know and she will follow up. I would be happy to have you attend a meeting as my guest to see if it would be of interest to you. And of course I am available for any conversation.
Dean Leonard
