Good evening,
We hope you all had a good weekend and are getting settled back in to what we know is a busy second semester.
Below are a few important updates and reminders as you prepare to start the week.
Updating your resume with grades/activities/awards:

  *   Make sure your resume is updated to reflect any new accomplishments (e.g. Book Awards) and law school activities you have gotten involved in since last semester.

  *
If you are in the top half of your law school class, list your class rank percentage on your resume. We typically recommend that you not list law school GPA, as grading scales vary among law schools and may prove confusing to employers skimming resumes. If you opt to list GPA, include your class rank percentage next to your GPA so there is context/value.
  *   We have attached a sample to indicate where to place your class rank percentage information on your resume if you include it. The sample resume includes a GPA, but the sample could also just say Top 25% and not include the GPA. We recommend using round numbers for class rank percentage. For example, if you are in the top 24% of your class based on the official information provided by the Registrar's office, you would indicate Top 25% on your resume.

Interviews that conflict with classes:

With recruiting season underway, employers may want to schedule interviews at times that conflict with classes. As soon as you are aware of a conflict, respectfully ask your professor if you are able to miss class to attend the interview. Do not simply tell your professor you will miss class. Professors are generally supportive of student interviews, but it is important to communicate early and respectfully about interview-related conflicts.

Thank You Notes:

We recommend that you send thank you emails to employers within 24 hours after interviews.

Mock Interviews with Practicing Attorneys:

Registration for the Mock Interview Program with practicing attorneys opens tomorrow. The registration link will be in the Career Advisor. Space for the program is limited, so we encourage you to sign up promptly if your schedule allows you to participate. Interviewing is an important skill, and this program is a great way to get real world practice and feedback.
