Members of the Class of 2028,

I hope you are all having a terrific week! While fall break is right around the corner, I wanted to address a concern that was brought to my attention regarding the midterm exams you have taken over the past days. While you all know that your professors have the ability to set the policies for their individual courses, I want to clarify what the overarching policy is for the discussion of examinations as provided by the Honor Code.

Pursuant to Article III, § 2, Rule 3 of the Honor Code, "It is a violation of this Code for a student who is taking or has completed an examination to discuss the examination with or in the proximity of a person whom the student knows or should have known has not completed it. It would also be a violation of this rule for the student who has not completed or taken the examination to participate in such activity." What this means is that you should not discuss examinations with anyone who you are not certain has taken the exact exam that you have taken. This does not mean that you cannot discuss your examination, but it means that you can only discuss your examination with those who you are certain have taken the same exam.

To provide you with some helpful guidance, you should try not to discuss exams while you are on campus. There are always people in the hallways, stairwells, and library who have not taken the exam. If you intend to discuss your exam, do so in a private setting with people who you are certain took the exam with you. And be sure not to discuss the exam with those who are in a different section from you, as they may take the exam that you just completed in the spring.

The Honor Court does not desire for anyone to get in trouble, so I just want to remind you of your duties and obligations. If you have any specific questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to me. I am always here to be a resource for you! I hope each and every one of you has a blessed weekend.

Very Respectfully,

Reese David Dickerhoff
