On Behalf of the SBA
Campbell Law Flex Students & Campbell Law Class of 2028,
First and foremost, welcome to Campbell Law School. I hope the start of your semester is going well, and I look forward to getting to know you all better as the year goes on. As for now, the time has come for our 1L and FLEX Student Bar Association and Honor Court elections.
The Student Bar Association (SBA) is the governing body of the law school. SBA oversees all student organizations and is the representative voice to law school faculty and administration. SBA is made up of 23 positions: 4 executive board members, 18 representatives (6 from each class), and 1 representative for FLEX students. SBA meetings occur bi-weekly throughout the semester, on Mondays from 12-12:55 PM. In addition to meetings, there is a required SBA Retreat on a soon to be determined date located at the school.
The Honor Court is the enforcement body of the law school. Honor Court investigates and enforces the academic honor code and the student code of conduct. The Honor Court is made up of the Chief Justice, Office of the Attorney General, Defense Counsels, and 9 Honor Court Justices (3 from each class). Justices are required to sit on the bench and vote in an array of hearings, including those of Probable Cause, Plea Acceptances, and trials related to other Honor Court matters whenever called to serve by the Chief.
The Elections Information Session was held on August 19th. If you missed it, I have attached the powerpoint with all of the needed information. We strongly encourage all prospective candidates to read the powerpoint.
NOMINATIONS
You must be nominated by one of your peers in order to be a candidate for an open position. Any other Campbell Law student, regardless of class, may nominate you as a candidate. The nomination positions include:
· Six (6) 1L SBA Reps;
· One (1) Flex SBA Rep; and
· Three (3) 1L Honor Court Members. (FLEX Students classified as 1L can run for this position.)
The nomination process will open at 8AM on Friday, August 22nd and will close at 5PM on Sunday, August 24th. You may begin campaigning as soon as you submit your nomination form. However, before you begin campaigning, you must first read the current version of the SBA Constitution AND the Elections Bylaws, both of which I have attached to this email. All campaign rules will be enforced. Please govern yourselves accordingly. Pay special attention to the rules on electronic campaigning and spending limits. Remember that the spending limit on campaign materials shall not exceed $100 and receipts MUST be submitted to the Chairperson of the Internal Affairs Committee either electronically or in person. Violation of the Election Bylaws is an Honor Court violation, and will result in the applicable proceedings and investigations.
Attached you will find the SBA Candidate Nomination Form. This form must be completed by both the Nominating Person and the Candidate by the August 24th deadline. Electronic signatures or typed names used as signatures are allowed. Once the form is completed, the Candidate must upload the form as a PDF by clicking here<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScHdjAqO40xnwDFLLvEkNPxzHISSq8FXaUPfXaoVKh6BVoBSw/viewform?usp=header> by 5PM on Sunday, August 24th. Late submissions will not be considered nor appear on the ballot.
ELECTIONS
Elections will be held virtually. Polls will open at 8AM on Thursday, August 28th and close at 5PM on Friday, August 29th. You will receive an email on Thursday, August 28th with the link and details for voting. Once the results have been processed and votes have been tallied by the SBA Internal Affairs Committee and certified by the Honor Court Chief Justice, the results will be posted on the window of the SBA Office and emailed to the full student body.
We are extremely excited to welcome our newest members to both the Student Bar Association and Honor Court. As always, if you have any questions or concerns please feel free to stop by the SBA and Honor Court offices located through the door in the student commons, or email the SBA President (Jessica Griffin, jmgriffin0111 at email.campbell.edu<mailto:jmgriffin0111 at email.campbell.edu> ); the Honor Court Chief Justice (Reese Dickerhoff, rddickerhoff0526 at email.campbell.edu<mailto:rddickerhoff0526 at email.campbell.edu>); or myself (Lauren Collins, lbcollins1105 at email.campbell.edu<mailto:lbcollins1105 at email.campbell.edu>).
Kind Regards,
