Good afternoon,
We hope you are all enjoying the beautiful weather!
There are a few Career & Professional Development related items we want to highlight as we head into the weekend.
UPCOMING CAREER CENTER EVENTS
*
Wednesday, March 25 from 8:30 - 11:00am stop by the lobby in front of our office to meet and chat with attorneys from the ABA Construction Law Forum and be treated to bagels and coffee. Stephen Saffran is with Saffran Law and his practice includes representing contractors and design professionals in construction litigation, business litigation, and labor and employment matters. Andrew Atkins is a construction litigation partner at Smith Anderson. This is a drop in so just stop by when it works for your schedule.
*
Thursday, March 26 at noon in room 313 there will be a Judicial Clerkship Panel featuring Campbell Law alum who are former judicial clerks in state appellate and business courts and federal courts. Professor Sawchak will moderate. Click HERE<https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/wytd1ei0ap474k/> <https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/wytd1ei0ap474k/> for lunch. Post graduate clerkships can be very valuable to your career journey, and we encourage attendance at this event to learn more and meet our panelists, all of whom are now attorneys practicing with several different law firms. This is a good time to attend if you are a 2L considering a clerkship, as the process for hiring post grad clerks can start as early as now, depending on the court and judge. If you would like more information after the event, reach out to our office to discuss clerkships.
*
Both of these are great networking opportunities. Whether you are primarily interested in the program subject matter or just meeting and connecting with the attorneys before or after the event, we hope to see you there.
EXTERNSHIPS
*
If you aren't yet familiar with externships, an externship is essentially an internship for which you receive academic credit (see the attached flyer for an overview)
*
If/when you secure an externship, you can register for the summer Externship course, which is now a 3 credit course
*
You register for the summer Externship course as you would for any other class
*
The Externship folder on the LawCareers Blackboard page contains multiple resources to help you get a better understanding of externships. You can also reach out to our office with questions
*
There are summer externship opportunities available on Symplicity if you are looking for a summer legal experience (see Monday's Career Advisor for some highlights)
*
Be on the lookout for new FALL externship postings in Symplicity starting Monday and in the coming weeks
As always, please read the weekly Career Advisor on Mondays to stay abreast of important information and reach out to our office with questions.
Have a great weekend!
Warm regards,
Mallory Underwood
