[Law26] Fall Break, Relaxation, and a Tiny Favor (We Promise!)

Dear future legal eagles,
Hooray! Fall break is upon us, and we're as excited as a first-year student who just learned the Rule Against Perpetuities! (Okay, maybe not THAT excited, but close.)
We hope you'll use this time to:
- Relax harder than you've ever relaxed before
- Spend quality time with family (yes, even your cousin who always asks for free legal advice)
- Temporarily forget what "mens rea" means
But wait! Before you dive into that thrilling novel about tax law or binge-watch all 9 seasons of "Suits," we have one itty-bitty request...
Remember the Appellate Advocacy Team applications? You know, that thing you've been meaning to do between coffee runs and trying to decipher 19th century Supreme Court jurisprudence?
Good news: It'll take you less time to fill out the form than it does to recite the elements of battery! (We timed it. It's science.)
Why join, you ask?
- You'll be part of Campbell Law's legacy (cue dramatic music)
- Your future self will thank you for the skills you'll gain
- You might make friends who don't talk about torts 24/7 (no promises, though)
So, here's the deal: Take 15 minutes, fill out that form, and then go enjoy your break with a clear conscience. Think of it as your "Get Out of Guilt Free" card!
Remember, when you return, you'll be one step closer to being the next Elle Woods or Atticus Finch (your choice).
Happy Fall Break!
CC

Subject: Moot Court Team Tryouts - APPLICATION & SAVE THE DATE
Dear 2L & 3L Students,
We are excited to begin the process of selecting the next group of dynamic advocates for the Campbell Law Moot Court Team. This year we will be sending teams to compete in a variety of moot court competitions throughout the nation. Moot court tryouts are open to all second and third year students who participated in the Old Kivett Moot Court Competition or have taken or are currently enrolled in Advanced Legal Writing.
Tryouts for the Campbell Law Moot Court Team are scheduled for October 16, 2024 from 6:00 pm until 8pm in the Boyce Courtroom. Candidates participating in the moot court tryout process must present to a panel of faculty and adjunct coaches on behalf of either Respondent or Petitioner (as you prefer) for a period of no more than 5 minutes utilizing the case file from the 2024 Richard A. Lord Intramural Moot Court Competition. You may choose to argue only a single issue (again, whichever issue you prefer) and will only be questioned on your issue.
Please come by the Advocacy Suite to sign up for a time to tryout.
Also attached is the Moot Court Team Tryout Application. Once you have completed your application, please scan your tryout application, your resume, your class schedule, then work schedule (if applicable) in that order. These materials should be emailed to: Director Cox at mcox at campbell.edu<mailto:mcox at campbell.edu> and tspears at campbell.edu<mailto:tspears at campbell.ed> by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 14, 2024.
I strongly encourage anyone interested to sign up for tryouts.
Best regards,
Mary Ann Matney
