[Law26] Summer 2024 Judicial Externship Opportunities

Two updates regarding summer judicial externship opportunities:


  1.
Chief Justice Newby's application will now be closing tomorrow, January 30 at 11:59 p.m. You can apply on Symplicity at ID #20399.

  2.
As you have seen from Director Underwood's previous email, Justice Barringer is also hiring for a summer judicial internship position. This position will begin (in person) in early May and run for 6 weeks. You can apply directly to her chambers by submitting a resume, cover letter, writing sample and unofficial transcript to Pat Hanson (bns at sc.nccourts.org).  The deadline for this position is Wednesday, January 31st. (Note: this internship is externship-eligible if you so choose)

As a reminder, if you apply for an internship, externship, or post-graduate position with a judge, you need to be prepared to accept the offer if one is made. This is sometimes known as the "Judge Rule" and is standard practice (and expected) in our field.  If you have any questions about that practice as it relates to judges, please reach out to our office.

Good afternoon,

It is hard to believe, but the time for Summer 2024 externship postings is already upon us. This is the first of two emails that you will receive from me regarding summer externships. The purpose of this email is to highlight judicial externship opportunities that are currently accepting applications. I have included the Symplicity ID numbers and application deadlines for your convenience. Please note that some judges, particularly those with deadlines in March and April, review applications on a rolling basis. Any of us in the Career Center are happy to help you as you prepare application materials for opportunities in which you're interested.

In about two weeks, I will send a second email that highlights externship opportunities outside of the judiciary (i.e., government entities, public interest organizations, and in-house counsel). I would also encourage you to consistently check Symplicity and your Career Newsletter for other opportunities that may arise.
