[St Andrews Main]

Dear 1L & 2L Students,

On Thursday, February 22nd, the Campbell Law Advocacy Center will be welcoming Professors Jeremy Counseller and Robert Little from Baylor Law School as they discuss Baylor Law School's Academy of the Advocate study abroad program being held this summer from July 28th to August 11th in St. Andrews, Scotland. The Academy is a unique program that joins together law students from across the country seeking to excel as trial or appellate advocates. Professors Counseller and Little will be offering their presentation about the Academy during the lunch hour and again later in the afternoon.

Lunch Provided! Free lunch will be served during the Noon presentation (chicken nuggets, mac & cheese, etc.) in Room 105.

The Academy of the Advocate is a first-of-its kind study abroad program focused on the art of advocacy: both in trial and on appeal. The program is a two-week taught on the campus of the University of St. Andrews (founded in 1413) in St. Andrews, Scotland. As he will discuss, the Academy of the Advocate develops students through focused, practical training in trial and appellate advocacy in three separate schools: the School of the Trial, the Advanced School of the Trial and the School of the Appeal. The Schools are taught by some of the finest lawyers, judges, and trial advocacy professors in the United States and United Kingdom. These include current and former federal judges, including our own Dean Leonard.

Over fifty Campbell Law students have participated in the Academy of the Advocate over the past three years. In fact, several of our distinguished students brought home advocacy awards for their performances in the School of the Trial and the Advanced School of the Trial. We are excited to welcome Professors Counseller and Little back to Campbell Law as he discusses the opportunity for Campbell Law students to be involved in this year's Academy of the Advocate. Campbell Law students who participated in the program in the past will also be available to discuss the program in detail and share their experiences.

More information about the 2024 Baylor Law School Academy of the Advocate presentation will be forthcoming. If anyone has questions, please feel free to email me or stop by my office on the 4th floor in the Dean's suite.

Kindly,

Dean Tilly
