Good afternoon all,
Due to yesterday's events, we postponed the MIP/CLDC information session, which will now take place on Tuesday, January 16 at 5:00 PM in Room 309. Because we are holding the information session at a later date, the internal portion of the application schedule for the NCBA-MIP's 1L Summer Associate Program will be altered as follows:
Tuesday, January 16: Information Session in Room 309 at 5 PM with program alumni (food provided)
Monday, January 22 by 12 PM: Applications due to Director Sanders (either by email at nsanders at campbell.edu or in the Career Center)
Wednesday, January 24 - Friday, January 26: Internal Interview with Director Sanders and two to three other faculty/staff
February 4, 2024: Selected candidates must submit their final applications to Director Sanders by 12:00 PM.
February 22, 2024: Interview Day for selected candidates at Ward and Smith in Raleigh, NC
(Note: Because the CLDC application is completely external, the due date for that is still January 19.)
I hope to see you on Tuesday, and enjoy your long weekend!

Good morning,
I hope your Spring semester is off to a great start. You may have noticed several 1L diversity scholarships or programs listed on Symplicity, in the Career Center's newsletters, or on our Diversity Listserv if you signed up for that. Over recent years, several firms have begun their own summer associate programs aimed at attracting diverse students. In this email, I want to highlight two longstanding North Carolina programs: (1) the North Carolina Bar Association Minorities in the Profession (MIP) Commitee's 1L Summer Associate Program and (2) the Charlotte Legal Diversity Clerkship.
I will be holding an informational session about the application process of both programs next week on Wednesday, January 10th from 5:00 - 6:00 PM (in Room 309) so as to avoid any class conflicts. We will have Campbell students and alumni who have participated in both programs who will be there to answer any questions about their experiences in these programs. We will provide light refreshments. To get an idea of how many students will be joining us, please RSVP using this Google Form: https://forms.gle/de1RtRbZtq9u4ENM6
MIP
Once again, the North Carolina Bar Association’s Minorities in the Profession (“MIP”) Committee is gearing up for its annual 1L Summer Associate Program. On behalf of the MIP Committee, Campbell Law is invited to participate in the 2024 MIP 1L Summer Associate Program (“1L SAP”). This program seeks to attract the best and brightest legal talent including candidates whose life experiences, demonstrated interests, and achievements can help enhance our employers’ commitments to diversity, inclusion, and excellence. An application to the 1L SAP program consists of the following:
1. Application (which I've attached to this email)
2. Resume
3. Unofficial first semester transcript
4. A written statement that explains how the student can further diversify the North Carolina State Bar
5. Writing Sample (Memorandum of Law)
You do not apply directly to MIP for this program. Instead, you must apply internally within the law school. Three students (and one alternate) will be identified to represent Campbell on the interview day. If selected, you will be expected to participate in the entire day of interviews (typically 8:00 am - 5:00 pm).
Here is tentative schedule:
* January 10, 2024: Information Session in Room 309 at 5:00 PM with program alumni
* January 17, 2024: Applications are due to Director Sanders via email (nsanders at campbell.edu) or in person (Office 101B in the Career Center) by 5:00 PM.
* Week of January 22, 2024: Internal interviews with Director Sanders and other faculty/staff members
* February 4, 2024: Selected candidates must submit their final applications to Director Sanders by 12:00 PM.
* February 22, 2024: Interview Day for selected candidates at Ward and Smith in Raleigh, NC
CLDC
Applications for the 2024 Charlotte Legal Diversity Clerkship (CLDC) 1L Program are currently being accepted. The goal of this program is to improve diversity in the Mecklenburg County Bar by attracting top first-year law students with diverse backgrounds to Charlotte through corporate and law firm summer internships. In this program, you work for both a participating law firm and a corporate partner during the summer. Unlike the MIP program, you apply directly to the CLDC program. Applications will be due on January 19, 2024. All details, including a timeline, list of employers, and the application, can be found here: https://www.meckbar.org/?pg=cldc-about-charlotte.
I know that you are all busy, but taking advantage of these programs has helped several Campbell students secure summer and post-graduate employment. I strongly encourage you to consider applying to one or both of these programs, and I hope to see you next week!
Best,
