Greetings Campbell Law Students,

On behalf of the Old Kivett Advocacy Council, we cordially invite all 2L's and 3L's to sign up for the 2024 Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition. The competition will take place on November 14-16, 2024. The competition’s rounds will take place during the following times:

  *   Thursday, November 14, 2024 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM
  *   Friday, November 15, 2024 6:00 PM - 7:00 PM
  *   Friday, November 15, 2024 7:30 PM - 8:30 PM
  *   Saturday, November 16, 2024 9:00 AM - 11:00 AM
  *   Saturday, November 16, 2024 11:30 AM - 1 PM

The Client Counseling Competition will be held in person at Campbell University Norman Adrian Wiggins School of Law. The topic for this year’s competition is Criminal Law.

The Client Counseling Competition allows students to work on the fundamental skills necessary for all successful attorneys, specifically the ability to interview, counsel, and support a client through an initial interview. Competitors conduct an initial interview as a team with a person playing the role of the client and then address both the client’s legal and non-legal needs. Students are called on to explain various aspects of the attorney-client relationship, build rapport, determine client goals, and consider applicable law and options that may be available to the client.  The ability to relate to clients is an underrated and under-appreciated component of Trial Advocacy.

This intramural competition is a precursor to participating in the Regional and National ABA Client Counseling Competitions in the Spring. Participation in the intramural competition serves as a student's tryout for the Campbell Law Client Counseling Team.

Please sign up with a partner and put their name in the Google form. Only one competitor from each team will need to fill out the form. You will be competing with the partner you choose. You must sign up by 5:00 P.M. on Friday, November 8, 2024.

Additionally, we invite all 1L’s to sign up as Student Volunteers. Volunteering for these competitions will provide you with a front row seat on how Client Counseling works and allow you to be involved with the operation of the competition.
