Colleagues,
I hope this email finds you well! The time has come for the Old Kivett
Advocacy Council to have new leadership appointed for the 2023-2024 year.
The Old Kivett Advocacy Council is responsible for organizing three main
intramural advocacy competitions as a way for students to get a taste of
competitive advocacy and help students learn about different forms of
advocacy.
The Old Kivett Advocacy Council is looking for rising 3Ls to fill the roles
of the Executive Board. The positions include President, Moot Court Chair,
Negotiations Chair, and Client Counseling Chair. We are also looking for
rising 2Ls to be a part of the general Council to help the Executive Board
organize the multiple competitions. Both 2Ls and 3Ls will be eligible for
the Vice President and General Council positions. A brief overview of the
positions is outlined below:
- *President*: The President is responsible for the overall structure
and logistics of the Council. They will be working closely with the Vice
Presidents, Chairs, and Faculty members to ensure each competition runs
smoothly. They will also be the ones to organize meetings and make sure all
the Council is on the same page. The President will also help the Chairs
with the organization and implementation of all the competitions.
- *Vice President*: The Vice President is responsible for helping the
President with the overall structure and logistics of the Council. Their
primary role will be facilitating communication with the appropriate
parties: primarily ensuring that the faculty advisor is informed of the
progress of the competitions and any logistical needs that the faculty
needs to help with. The Vice President will also help the Chairs with the
organization and implementation of all the competitions.
- *Moot Court Chair*: The Moot Court Chair is responsible for the annual
2L Old Kivett Moot Court Competition. This individual will work with
Professor Sawchak during the Old Kivett Advocacy Course and the President,
Vice President, and Faculty to ensure a successful competition.
- Client Counseling Chair: The Client Counseling Chair is responsible
for the Client Counseling Competition. This individual will work with the
President, Vice President, and Faculty to ensure a successful competition.
- *Negotiations Chair*: The Negotiations Chair is responsible for the
Negotiations Competition. They will work with the President, Vice
President, and Faculty to ensure a successful competition.
- *Associate Chair*: These individuals will work closely with the
respective Chairs for each competition. They will make joint decisions and
inform the President, Vice President, and faculty of the decisions and
progress for each competition. A special effort will be made to place
interested individuals with the competition of their choice, to be
determined at a later date.
- *General Council Member* – Any individual interested in the General
Council Member Position will attend meetings and may be assigned to help
out with a particular competition. They are expected to help with the
logistics and the execution of all events. This position would be ideal for
a 2L who is hoping to be on the Executive Board their 3L year, or any
person who is interested in learning about the process and different styles
of advocacy these competitions represent.
The deadline to submit the application is *April 7th, 2023 at 11:59 P.M.*
