[Law24] [1L Volunteers NEEDED] 2021 Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition

Dear 1L Students,


The annual Richard T. Bowser Client Counseling Competition will be held October 25-27, 2021. The competition is organized by the Old Kivett Advocacy Council (OKAC) and requires many distinguished alumni, local lawyers, and judges to adjudicate several individual client counseling rounds. Each year, the Bowser Client Counseling Competition offers our students the unique opportunity to hone their skills advising clients and crafting legal solutions. The competition is open to all students to participate in some fashion.  Second and third-year students may serve as lawyers (competitors in teams of 2) or clients. 1L students are permitted to serve as clients.



Historically, the first-year class serves as volunteer clients, individuals required for each round of the competition. We limit the number of activities in which you may participate as first-year students. However, this is the exception, where your involvement is not only encouraged, but expected. Each preliminary round is merely 45 minutes and the semi-final/final rounds are just 2 hours. Moreover, the Advocacy Program notes which 1L students volunteer to serve as bailiffs, timekeepers, and clients during the OKAC competitions. Our program takes that initial commitment to Campbell Law Advocacy into consideration during the next academic year's advocacy program tryouts.
