GROW is an innovative, student-led initiative that aims to highlight the unique healthcare challenges faced by rural and underserved communities. It is designed to unite students and professionals across disciplines, empowering the next generation of healthcare leaders to advance service, research, and advocacy for access to care in rural and underserved communities.

This is an interdisciplinary one-day conference in collaboration with the SC Center for Rural and Primary Healthcare that is occurring on April 11th, 2026, at the Luther F. Carter Center for Health Sciences Center in Florence, SC.

We are very excited about our events including:

  * Keynote Speaker, Dr. Ed Behling, CMO of HopeHealth who has been serving the Pee Dee area for over 35 years!
  * Point of Care Ultrasound lecture led by Dr. Floyd Bell, the director of USC SOM’s Ultrasound Institute.
  *   Interdisciplinary healthcare career panel
  *   Breakout sessions:
     * Maternal, Fetal, and Child Health in Rural Communities with Dr. Berry Campbell & Makala Smith, MS, RDN
     * Mental Health & Addiction Medicine in Rural Communities with Dr. Veronica Ridpath
  * AHEC interactive case study (AHEC Scholars will receive credit!)
  * Poster presentations: we are currently accepting abstracts related to public health, rural health, and/or underserved populations medicine in the form of an initiative, research, or quality improvement project until March 13th.
  * A networking lunch will be catered and will provide a space for students to connect with representatives from rural residency programs, learn about loan repayment initiatives, as well as mentorship and service opportunities.

This is a great (and free) opportunity for students to learn more about rural health and population medicine, practice presenting, and create a network.

To submit an abstract please visit our website https://growconference.weebly.com/.

Could you please help us circulate this to your students? Thank you so much for your consideration. Please let me or Mary (cc’d) know if you have any questions!

Sincerely,
