Hello, Students!

Orientation is just TWO WEEKS away! 😊
Below are our “TOP 10” things you need to know about Orientation and matriculation to medical school!
Please pay careful attention to the various listed deadlines. See you soon!

1.             Orientation

We are looking forward to welcoming you to CUSOM! Orientation is MANDATORY and will be from Wednesday, July 23rd through Friday, July 25th. We have also assigned everyone a session on Tuesday, July 22nd for pick-up of laptops and other materials. Please see the attached schedules for our pick-up day as well as our Orientation sessions. Below are a few details regarding Orientation and other important information related to the start of classes. Please let our Student Affairs team know if you have any questions.

TUESDAY, 7/22:

  * **PLEASE NOTE: Our Pick-Up Day and all days of Orientation are for STUDENTS ONLY (no loved ones please).
  * You may park in our front “visitor” lot, or in any unmarked parking spot on the health science campus. Please do not park in “F/S” (faculty/staff) spots. Thank you.
  * When you arrive and check in, you will receive a folder with important Orientation information as well as your STUDENT ID (if you complete the submission process by 7/17). You will then proceed upstairs to visit the following stations:
     * FIRST: Pick up your CUSOM laptop and receive training from our IT Team (you will complete this station FIRST). Go straight up to Lecture Hall 201 and don’t worry about the other stations and students in those areas on the 2nd floor. You will complete those stations after you get trained on your laptop.
     *   AFTER laptop training:

        * Get fitted for your CUSOM embroidered white coat.
        * Pick up your used white coat from the White Coat Drive table (OPTIONAL – only if you signed up to receive one).
        *   Take your professional headshot.
        * Complete a video voice file (for name pronunciation). Faculty who announce student names will review these files as they practice names for various ceremonies during your years at CUSOM.
        * Pick up your parking pass (if you register your vehicle online by 7/17).
        * Select an MS-1 locker on the 4th floor (Anatomy Lab floor). **PLEASE BRING EITHER A KEY OR COMBINATION LOCK WITH YOU (as well as an additional key if you have a key lock) ON TUESDAY, 7/22!** You will give ONE of your keys or your combination to our staff volunteers when your locker is selected.
        * We will also have student-led tours available throughout the day (OPTIONAL)!

  * **PLEASE PAY CAREFUL ATTENTION to the time you are scheduled to arrive on Tuesday:

O   Last name A-D, arrival 8:40 – 8:50am

o   Last name E-K, arrival 10:10 – 10:20am

o   Last name L-P, arrival 12:40 – 12:50pm

o   Last name R-Z, arrival 2:10 - 2:20pm

  * Dress code for Tuesday is business professional attire (shirt, tie, and jacket for men; dress or blouse and jacket for women). We will be taking professional headshots of all students on Tuesday. The headshot is from the waist up and this will be the photo we use for all four years of your time in medical school (no pressure)! 😉
  * You will be on campus for approximately 2 hours during your pick-up timeslot, so please plan accordingly if you need to bring a water bottle or snack with you.
  * This year, we will have two tables available with information on the HPSP (Health Professions Scholarship) Program if you are interested in finding out more about military scholarships to help cover the cost of medical school. One table will have Army representatives, and the other will have Air Force personnel.

WEDNESDAY - FRIDAY, 7/23 – 7/25:

  * Please eat breakfast on your own before you arrive each morning during Orientation. We will not be providing breakfast, but we will have water and snacks available for you throughout the day on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday.
  * Please pay careful attention to the arrival times for each day of Orientation (as listed on the attached Orientation schedule).
  * Dress code for Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday of Orientation is business casual attire (no tie required; no jeans, sweats, scrubs, tennis shoes, etc.).
  * Please note: the lecture hall temperature fluctuates frequently, so please dress in layers and bring a sweater or jacket as it can be chilly!
  * We will be providing lunch for you on Wednesday and Thursday of Orientation. On Wednesday, all students will have lunch with their faculty advisor. We will have vegan/vegetarian options available on both days as well.
  * Please bring your Orientation folder as well as your CUSOM laptop with you on all days of Orientation.

2.             Vehicle Registration/Parking Permits

  * All students must renew their parking permit each year (as they expire every August).
  * The enrollment portal for MS-1 commuting students will open this Friday, July 11th and will close on Thursday, July 17th at midnight.
  * To register your vehicle, please visit: https://www.campbell.edu/campus-safety/parking/vehicle-bicycle-registration/ and click on “Register your vehicle or bicycle”.
  * Parking registration is FREE for CUSOM students.
  * If you register your vehicle before the portal closes (on July 17th), your parking pass will be available to pick up on our “Pick Up Day” – Tuesday, July 22nd.
  * If you miss the registration window, you will need to wait until the portal reopens on August 7th, and you may pick up your parking permit at main campus safety at that time.
  * Parking permits are to be affixed to the LOWER, LEFT SIDE of the driver’s side REAR window (see attached document for diagram).
  * Parking citations will begin August 20th, so be sure to complete the online registration and put your parking sticker on your vehicle!
  * If you have any questions regarding your parking permit, please reach out to parking at campbell.edu<mailto:parking at campbell.edu> or Ms. Lori Gregg, email: lgregg at campbell.edu<mailto:lgregg at campbell.edu>.

3.             Student IDs

  * You should have already received an email (in your Campbell inbox) from “Campbell University Online Photo Submission” which gave you some instructions and a link to submit your photo online for your student ID.
  * If you have not already done so, please follow the instructions in that email and upload your photo for your Student ID. This is due by Thursday, July 17th.
  * If you submit your photo by July 17th, you should be able to pick up your Student ID on the “pick-up” Tuesday of Orientation during your scheduled timeslot.
  * If your photo is NOT received by the July 17th deadline and/or it is not available for pick up at Orientation, you will need to notify Student Affairs so we can have your photo submission email resent to your Campbell email. Once your uploaded photo is received and the ID card is created, you will pick up your student ID in the Bryan Hall Lounge on main campus.

4. Updated Emergency Contact Information - MANDATORY

  * Once you have secured LOCAL housing, please fill out the following Wufoo survey so we can keep track of your contact information. This information is MANDATORY and is collected from students at the beginning of each academic year. We will also use this information to register all of our students for national SOMA membership and will be following up individually until each student has completed the survey.
  *   Emergency Contact Wufoo:

https://cuweb.wufoo.com/forms/ms1-updated-contact-information-class-of-2029/

  * This survey is due MONDAY, July 21st.
  * Ms. Faith Huston (copied) will be following up with each student until all are in compliance with this requirement.

5.             Campbell Emergency Alert System

  * If you have not already done so, please sign up with your mobile phone number so you can be alerted about weather delays or any other campus-related emergency.
  *   https://campbell.omnilert.net/subscriber.php

6. Books & Clinical Skills Equipment Reminders

  * Remember, you will NOT need any books or Clinical Skills equipment purchased by the first day of class, with the exception of a short, white consultation lab coat. This coat may be purchased on Amazon if you have not signed up to participate in our White Coat Drive.
  * Many students DO purchase scrubs to wear in the Anatomy Lab, but they are not required. You may wear any color scrubs you like. If you do not wear scrubs, you MUST wear long pants and closed-toe shoes in the lab.

7.             CastleBranch/Immunization Questions

  * All questions regarding CastleBranch issues or immunizations may be directed to: cusomimmunizations at campbell.edu<mailto:cusomimmunizations at campbell.edu> .
  * Our Clinical Affairs team will have some office hours available during CUSOM Orientation if you have further questions or are missing any matriculation requirements.

8.             Health Insurance Questions

  * All questions regarding Campbell health insurance may be directed to Ms. Laura Matthews (email: matthewsl at campbell.edu<mailto:matthewsl at campbell.edu>).
  * Some students have been trying to access the Care26 portal to apply for Campbell’s student health insurance. Please be aware that until students are registered by CUSOM, their information does not show in the insurance portal. New CUSOM students should be registered by our Registrar no later than the week before Orientation. Once registered, they will receive an email from Care26 and will be able to waive or enroll in the Campbell University insurance. If they enroll, they should be able to retrieve a copy of their insurance card from the Care26 portal to upload (copy of front and back of card) into the CastleBranch system.
  * If a waiver is submitted and approved, the insurance charge will be removed from their students’ accounts within 5 business days. If a student enrolls, the insurance charge will remain on their accounts. For students who take no action and international students, they will be automatically enrolled in the Campbell University student insurance policy, and the charge will remain on their student account.

9.             Billing/Student Account Questions

  * All questions regarding tuition or your student account may be directed to our Student Financial Services team at sfs at campbell.edu<mailto:sfs at campbell.edu> or by calling (910) 893-1244.
  * Our SFS PowerPoint presentation is also attached for your convenience.
  * Ms. Laura Matthews will also be at CUSOM and will have some office hours available during CUSOM Orientation if you have further questions or if you are missing any matriculation requirements.

10.        Financial Aid Questions

  * All Financial Aid questions may be directed to our Loan Team loanteam at campbell.edu<mailto:loanteam at campbell.edu> or to Mr. Ben Severin bseverin at campbell.edu<mailto:bseverin at campbell.edu>.
  * Mr. Ben Severin will also be at CUSOM and will have some office hours available during Orientation if you have further questions or if you are missing any matriculation requirements.
