Hello Class of 2029,

I hope you are all well this morning. My name is Jackson Wheatley and I am an OMS-II at CUSOM. I am also the current TOUCH hour coordinator. I wanted to send out an email explaining what TOUCH hours are and how they can benefit you going forward. The first thing I would like to do is explain the difference between Volunteer hours and TOUCH hours.
TOUCH hours are a special type of volunteer hours. Volunteer hours are exactly what they sound like. It is anytime you provide work/service without pay. Exceptions to this include anything academic related (like research or shadowing) and anything personal life related (like helping a friend move). TOUCH hours also follow these guidelines, but with the added contingency of SERVING THE COMMUNITY. TOUCH hours must serve/impact the community. Examples of this include the following: CUCCC, soup Kitchens, food pantries, pay as you can kitchens.

An example of something that would count as volunteer hours but NOT TOUCH hours is volunteering for CUSOM's applicant day. While you are providing unpaid work/service, it is helping CUSOM, but not the community. This is why this would count as volunteer hours, but not TOUCH hours.

We keep track of your TOUCH and volunteer hours through a software called "givepulse". Awards are given out each year to people who have reached a certain TOUCH hour number each academic year. The outline of that is below:

Participation award: 1-50 TOUCH hours
Silver award: 50-100 TOUCH hours
Gold award: 100+ TOUCH Hours
Platinum: The person who graduates with the most TOUCH hours in your class

I will give you more information on how to set up your "givepulse" account in a few weeks. Please don't hesitate to reach out to me if you have any questions. I hope everyone has a great week! ROLL HUMPS!
