Triangle Community Foundation is accepting applications for the NC Diversity and Equity in Emergency Medicine Scholarship for funding for the 2026-2027 academic year. The scholarship was created out of a desire to increase the number of underrepresented minorities in the medical field, specifically in emergency medicine.

Scholarship applications are now being accepted and will be awarded to second year MD or DO students or first-year Physician Assistant students who identify as underrepresented minorities and are attending school in North Carolina, South Carolina, Georgia, Tennessee, or Virginia, and are either residents of North Carolina or intend to practice medicine in North Carolina after completion of their degree program.

Awards will be $5,000 per year for the number of years remaining in the student’s program (one or two years) and may be used towards any need listed under the school’s total cost of attendance. The student is responsible for all other charges. To receive a second year of funding, students must verify they continue to be in good academic standing and that they will be enrolled for the upcoming academic year.

Applications:
All applications must be submitted by March 9, 2026 using the Foundation's online system. Applicants will create a profile, upload a completed application form and attachments, and provide a recommendation letter by March 9.
We encourage you to share this information with your staff, students, and/or clients.

Scholarship payments are paid directly to institutions on behalf of recipients, not directly to recipients themselves. If potential applicants have any questions as to whether their institution will be able to accept these scholarship funds, they should contact their institution’s financial aid office directly.
