Subject: Pathology Club Mock Practical

Hello Everyone,

This is Wade Johnson from Pathology Club. We had a great turnout for the practical today and I wanted to thank everyone for coming. Some of you requested that I send the mock practical powerpoint to you all so here it is.

Last year, it was common consensus of our class that the mock practical was much easier than the actual practical and that it did not prepare us. This year, we designed the mock practical to be harder than the real one to better prepare you. If you did not do well today do not be discouraged.

A question was asked in the second session about the Astrocyte. This picture is labeled in the section labeled "glial Cell" in your textbook. The term glial cell encompasses oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, microglia, and ependymal cells. The picture shows an Astrocyte (which is a type of glial cell) with a GFAP+ IHC. You can find this on page 385 of Wheater's. Pg 388 shows microglia (also a type of glial cell) with ricinus communis agglutinin. You can see the clear differences between the branching of the two types of cells.

Thank You,
Wade Johnson
