Good morning,

I know it is hard to believe, but it is time to start thinking about COMLEX-USA Level 2-CE and the qualification process to sit for this board exam. The end of third-year clinical rotations, the start of your fourth year and Residency Development Course, will be here before you know it.

Attached is the information you need to know about the Comprehensive Osteopathic Medical Self-Assessment Examination (COMSAE) for Phase 2, the qualifying exam on which you must score a minimum of a 450 in order to sit for Level 2-CE. The FAQ attachment addresses many questions, including the dates of the exam within this exam cycle beginning on January 16, 2026. It also addresses what to do if you are on a vacation month or international rotation in January, February, or March. We will be conducting these qualifying exams at CUSOM in either Lecture Hall 201 or 202 this year. Virtual COMSAEs are not available.

You will have up to three opportunities to qualify for Level 2-CE, and CUSOM covers the cost of the first attempt. You will have had adequate rotation exposure by January through March to achieve this qualifying score. At the very least, the COMSAE Phase 2 will help you identify subjects you must review in preparation for Level 2-CE.

You will be cleared to schedule Level 2-CE at this time; however, you will not be able to sit for the exams until the objectives listed in the FAQs are met. The document also briefly addresses Level 2-PE. You will learn more about that during Residency Development Course between the Departments of Simulation and Clinical Affairs.

Please read the FAQs attachment. You will receive another email from Clinical Affairs notifying you of your starting exam date, as the first COMSAE date approaches.

Thank you,
Allie
