Dear students,
There have been a few questions about the recent email announcing GPA checks for conference attendance. We recommend students have a 3.0 GPA and be in good academic standing to attend and present research at a meeting. A student should be academically strong before undertaking the task of preparing for an extracurricular presentation. However, you may ask for an exception to the GPA requirement for presenting your research at a meeting or conference. When applying for funding to present your research, if your GPA does not meet the 3.0 standard or you are not in good academic standing, you will be asked to schedule an appointment with Dr. Hamrick, Associate Dean for Research. During that appointment, we will discuss the careful inclusion of research and research presentations. Depending on the timing of the meeting and your current academic standing, you may be allowed to attend and may request funding to assist with your travel expenses.

Please note: this pertains only to research presentations. Student Affairs will provide oversight for any other types of conference and meeting attendance for student organizations.

Please don't hesitate to contact us with any questions, comments, or concerns.
