Dear Faculty, Staff, and Students,

I know I have been blessed to come to know many of you as friends and family, but I am excited and truly grateful to be stepping into the role of interim Dean of the Osteopathic Medical School this week. Since the announcement of my appointment was made over a month ago, many of you have reached out with messages of well wishes, support, and kindness, and I want to thank you for those.

Dr. Wallace calls CUSOM a special place, and I agree wholeheartedly. It is a very special place because of your efforts, diligence, and care you have for your work and each other. I want to make sure that continues and is recognized every day. Please know that I will encourage and foster an environment that supports our Mission to care for the rural and underserved of North Carolina, the Southeast, and the nation.

I would also like to make sure we thank Dr. Kessler for his leadership and vision as Dean. Our programs, clinical partnerships, scholarly activity, and culture of wellness are better because of his leadership. I have a great friendship and deep respect for Dr. Kessler and his family, and am committed to listening to your voices just as he did and will do my best to lead in a similar spirit of collaboration, integrity, and humility.

I end my presentations with students by reminding them that they need to be the best versions of themselves to be successful along their medical journey. This is usually followed by a quick slide that includes contact information for Behavioral Health resources. However, I want to make sure we are all our best versions of ourselves, not just for CUSOM but for all those you encounter every day. This all starts with us looking out for each other.

I wish everyone a safe summer, and let's be good to each other.
