[Cusom27] Severe Weather

Good morning,

I hope this email finds you safe and well.  With the current weather affecting some over our coastal clinical campuses, we wanted to take the time to share this very important email.  Attached to this email are a few helpful documents composed by other Associate Deans and some of our DSME's over the years.  I have included information on Disaster Resources, a Disaster Preparation Checklist, Suggested Hurricane Supply Kits, and a FEMA Checklist.  There are also relevant sections of the Academic Bulletin you can reference separately - 6.4.4 Severe Weather Policy and 6.4.5 Emergency Preparedness Plan.

As a reminder...it is your DSME's decision to suspend clinical rotations due to severe weather.  It is always very important to pay close attention to all announcements from your clinical campuses.  Severe weather can be very unpredictable so please be attentive to any announcements from your respective clinical campus leadership.  Your DSME will also decide when it is safe to return to clinical rotations so, again, please be attentive to your email during the severe weather event.  With the CUSOM clinical campus system covering such a large geographical area across NC and SC, I am aware that a storm may affect some clinical campuses more than others.

If rotations are suspended for multiple days and, as conditions warrant, resources are available, the DSME may decide to conduct didactics, special educational sessions, or online chats and blogs with their respective student cohorts to check on their wellbeing and/or assign a relevant topic presentation for them during the severe weather event.  These sessions and work are helpful to keep students progressing and moving on their respective clinical rotation blocks.

Again, please be mindful of any email announcements from your clinical campus and reply to any requests accordingly in a timely fashion.
