I wanted to share a reminder about a great financial assistance opportunity for those of us committed to working in critical employment shortage areas in North Carolina.

The Forgivable Education Loans for Service (FELS) Program was established by the General Assembly to support qualified students enrolled in approved education programs. To be eligible, you must be a legal resident of North Carolina and plan to work in a county of need following your residency training.

This program offers up to $25,000 per year in forgivable loans, which you can apply for each year of medical school—up to a total of $100,000. For each year of full-time employment post-residency, one year of loan funding will be forgiven. Please note that recipients cannot receive FELS funding concurrently with other state-funded loans.
